Shakira has been at the brink of bad news for New Jersey concertgoers this past week.
The Latin-singer performed two shows at NJ’s MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Surrounding the show, attendees may have faced travel blockades after NJ Transit canceled all bus and train service to the shows.
Now, a case of measles has been reported.
An out-of-town attendee at the May 15 show was infected with the highly contagious virus, which typically spreads easily in large crowds like the ones seen at MetLife.
Anyone who was at the May 15 show between 7:30 pm and 1:00 am may have been exposed.
In 2025, only three cases of measles have been reported among New Jersey residents, all of which were from the same home in Bergen County. Last week, another case was reported from a non-resident at Newark Liberty International Airport.
96% of those infected were not vaccinated for the virus, according to the CDC.
