Stone Temple Pilots and Live performed their co-headline ‘Jubilee Tour’ at the PNC Bank Arts Center on Friday night, and it brought energy back like it was the ’90s.
Though Stone Temple Pilots reign from San Diego, California, two founding members of the band Robert (bass) and Dean (guitar) DeLeo are both from New Jersey.
The two brothers were born in Montclair but grew up down the shore in Point Pleasant. Robert took an opportunity during the band’s playing of ‘Purple’ in full to thank the crowd for the “hometown” show.
Soul Asylum:
The show began with openers Soul Asylum, another big band from the ’90s rock era, who performed seven songs.
For an early crowd, they certainly got them going. Though most who would be interested in seeing both Live and Stone Temple Pilots would know and love a band like Soul Asylum.

Below is the band’s seven-song set:
- Somebody to Shove
- Misery
- High Road
- Black Gold
- Runaway Train
- Just Like Anyone
- April Fool
Stone Temple Pilots:
STP was up next as them and Live have been alternating nights closing out the show.
The band played their sophomore record ‘Purple’ in full, which features many hits like ‘Interstate Love Song,’ ‘Vasoline,’ ‘Big Empty,’ and ‘Unglued.’
New singer Jeff Gutt, who was a successful contestant on America’s Got Talent, had similar performance techniques to Scott Weiland, but had his own swagger as well.
After playing their second album in full, they also played some other hits like ‘Plush’ and ‘Dead & Bloated,’ which really had the crowd into their set.

Live:
Live closed out the show with a thriller, playing many songs from ‘Throwing Copper,’ as it was an anniversary tour for the record.
Though Stone Temple Pilots may have had a bigger pop from the crowd, there was a very sizeable overlap with Live fans.

The band opened the set with ‘Top’ and one of their hits, ‘All Over You,’ before going into some tracks from other records. They closed with ‘I Alone’ and their biggest hit, ‘Lightning Crashes’ in the encore.
