Asbury Park legend Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes are performing a special anniversary show, the group announced Monday. The show will take place on August 31st.
The anniversary is in two ways: the 50th anniversary of the Stone Pony and the anniversary of the 1976 Radio Show.
A lot of the times, you’ll find Southside Johnny on the smaller, indoor stage, but this time, it’s on the 4,000+ person Summer Stage.
The Stone Pony put out this statement about the show:
“In 1976, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes opened the summer season on Memorial Day weekend with one of the most memorable shows in the history of the Pony. This year, we will mark the occasion by celebrating at the unofficial end of summer on Labor Day weekend.”
The show features openers La Bamba and the Hubcaps, who will take the stage at 6:00 pm, an hour after doors open. Southside Johnny is set to take the stage at around 8:00 pm.
It now seems like an annual tradition that Southside Johnny will perform one show on the indoor stage, and one show outdoors each year at the Pony. The tradition continues this year.
Southside Johnny has performed on the Summer Stage more times than any other band in the history of the stage, performing over 21 shows on it. Behind him and his band is Slightly Stoopid at 15, followed by local bands like The Bouncing Souls and The Gaslight Anthem.
The show should be a good one! Tickets are available for $50 online, or $65 at the door if they are still available.
