Roots Picnic Festival, created by the Roots, is taking place this weekend, June 1st and 2nd in Philadelphia.

Roots Picnic was founded and is produced by The Roots and Live Nation, along with Shawn Gee, the manager of The Roots. The fest takes place at Fairmount Park, and it was created in 2008.

The two-day festival still has tickets available or $250 all-in for both days. VIP tickets are also available starting at $999.

Saturday is headlined by Jill Scott and Nas, two hip hop acts you don’t want to miss if you’re in the area. Sexxy Red, who is performing at GovBall the following week, The-Dream, Smino, and Wallo & Gillie are subheadlining.

The lineup on Sunday is topped by a collaborative set with Lil Wayne and The Roots, along with additional sets by Andre 3000 and Gunna. Lil Wayne also headlined the festival in 2017. Babyface, Cam’ron, Wale, and Adam Blackstone are also thrown into the lineup.

The Lil Wayne & The Roots collaborative set is an annual tradition at Roots Picnic, where The Roots will be the backing band for one of the headliners. The tradition started in 2012, and since around that time, The Roots no longer do solo sets each year.

Here are some of the notable collaborative sets in the past:

De La Soul + The Roots (2012)

Snoop Dogg + The Roots (2014)

Usher + The Roots (2016)

D’Angelo, John Mayer, + The Roots (2016 – NYC)

Pharell + The Roots (2017)

The Roots with Dave Chapell and 2 Chainz (2018)

Mary J. Blige + The Roots (2022)

A ticket to the festival does not include re-entry, so once your ticket is scanned, you have to be in the venue until you’re done for the day. Even though there is no re-entry, there are still wristbands available as tickets.
