The Governers Ball Music Festival in Flushing, NY is taking place in two weeks. With it being such a short trip for many in New Jersey, it’s only right to cover.
We’ll be previewing five GovBall artists as time gets closer to the festival, can you can check in every Tuesday and Friday for a new artist preview.
The Killers are not new to New York or GovBall itself at all. The band performed at their first GovBall in 2016, where they headlined along with The Strokes and Kanye West. In 2016, the festival was still on Randall’s Island, but has since moved to Carona Park in Flushing.
Other than GovBall, The Killers have performed in New York over 65 times, per setlist.fm. The band was most recently in the city in 2022, when they played a set at Terminal 5, just a few weeks after headlining Madison Square Garden.
For festival fans in the tri-state area, you would also know that The Killers have been at many festivals in the area. They headlined Sea.Hear.Now in Asbury Park, NJ in 2023, are set to headline Oceans Calling in Ocean City, MD this upcoming September, and are headlining Boston Calling in Boston, MA this May.
The Killers are dedicating this year to shows highlighting their debut album ‘Hot Fuss’, released in 2004. The record was nominated for Grammy Awards, including one for best alternative record, however that title was taken by Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’.
GovBall has a very diverse vibe, however The Killers are sort of like outliers in the festival lineup, which shows how diverse they can be with festival sets. They are headlining Saturday along with 21 Savage, and are playing the festival with the likes of Post Malone, SZA, and Peso Pluma.
The band released their greatest hits compilation in 2023, titled ‘Rebel Diamonds’ and features three new songs: ‘boy’, ‘Your Side of Town’, and ‘Spirit’.
