Swedish rock band The Hives are set to rock Asbury Park on Saturday of the Sea.Hear.Now Festival. The band has not played a show in the state of New Jersey in over 10 years.

If you’ve missed the other ones, this is #3 of 29 (so far) of the 2024 Sea.Hear.Now artist previews. So far, we’ve done 311 and Kool & the Gang. These are previews of each artists’ songs to listen to and their history with shows in New Jersey. They’re short and sweet, and you can read the rest by clicking here.

The Hives, led by vocalist Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, released their first record in over 10 years in 2023, and are set to play the Garden State for the first time in just as many. The last time the band was in New Jersey, they were opening for P!nk at the Prudential Center.

Their newest record, The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons, showed that The Hives can still make great music that is true to their roots. In fact, I see it as one of their best works yet. Besides that, they have other huge records like Veni Vidi Vicious and Lex Hives.

With that, they’ve had some hit songs in the genre over the years. Off of Veni Vidi Vicious, they’ve had some hits like Hate to Say I Told You So and Main Offender. But they’re still producing hits, as Bogus Operandi from their newest record did very well as well.

Being this early out into the festival, it’s unclear where The Hives will play and at what time, but with an educated guess on previous years, I would imagine they’ll play the third-to-last slot on the main stage, the same spot The Beach Boys played in 2023 and Michael Franti in 2022. If not, they would have to be on the Sand Stage, but that could be too small for them. We’ll keep this page updated when the schedule is announced in the summer.

The Hives will be stopping in Brooklyn and Philadelphia a week after Sea.Hear.Now as part of their northeast leg of The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons North America Tour.
