Soul and funk band Kool & the Gang is coming to Sea.Hear.Now on Sunday, September 15th. The band, famous for their tracks ‘Celebration’ and ‘Get Down on It’ .
This is part two of a 30 part Sea.Hear.Now preview series, where we do a short bio of each artist at the festival and let you know how you can get into the artist.
Kool & the Gang formed in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1964 and have released 23 studio albums and over 70 singles. Despite being from New Jersey, they don’t have a crazy history of shows in the state. They’ve played just six shows in the state in the past 7 years.
The band has just a few shows lined up for the year.
As for recommended songs, ‘Celebration’ and ‘Get Down on It’ as mentioned before are definitely the place to start. These songs were super popular and most people know them today. Those will be super fun to hear live. I would start with their 1980 record ‘Celebrate!’ which is 8 songs long, 35 minutes. From there, just shuffle through the songs and it’s all a vibe!
With the band being billed at the top of the small names, it’s unclear where and when they’ll play at the festival. Based on previous years’ billings, the best guess would be the third-to-last band on the surf stage, but they seem like a great fit for the sand and park stage as well. We’ll find out the official schedules sometime in June or July.
