311, a blend of rock and reggae, are set to close the park stage on Saturday of Sea.Hear.Now. The Omaha, Nebraska natives have a great history of shows and festivals in New Jersey, as well as touring in general.
Today’s Sea.Hear.Now preview is the first of 30, one for each band at the festival. Each preview will have a little bit of info to help you learn about the artist, some essential songs and albums to listen to, as well as their history of shows in New Jersey. Each one is pretty short, and you can find a collection of them by clicking the SHN Preview category.
The band formed in 1990 with Nick Hexum (vocals/guitar), Tim Mahoney (guitar), SA Martinez (vocals/DJ), Chad Sexton (drums), and P-Nut (bass). The five-piece is still together and still regularly touring.
The band’s first record ‘Music’ was released in 1993, and their breakthrough self-titled record was released in 1995. The record features hit songs like ‘Down’, ‘All Mixed Up’, and ‘Random’.
Years later, they’ve had a large handful of hits, like a more laid-back track called ‘Amber’ and a famous cover of The Cure’s ‘Lovesong’. Over the years, the band has accumulated over 3,000,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
Like mentioned earlier, 311 has a great history of shows in New Jersey. They headlined the AC Beer Festival with Dropkick Murphys in 2023 at Bader Field, and have played 6 shows in the state in the past three years. They’ve played all sorts of venues: Ocean Casino, PNC Bank Arts Center, and BB&T Pavilion.
The band is going on tour this summer with Awolnation and Neon Trees. They also released an NPR Tiny Desk on March 11, which they call 311 day. They’re also going on a cruise in 2025 from Miami to the Bahamas.
