Bruce Springsteen surprised a crowd of 2,800 at Prudential Hall at NJPAC on Saturday as he joined John Mellencamp on stage for ‘Pink Houses’.
John Mellencamp, 72, and Springsteen, 74, both performed together at Sting’s Rainforest Benefit in 2019. They performed both ‘Pink Houses’ and ‘Glory Days’ at the show.
This was Springsteen’s second appearance at NJPAC, his previous being his show at the venue in 2010, his only time playing the venue, in which he performed ‘Glory Days’ with Danny Devito.
Mellencamp and Springsteen have known each other for years, and Mellencamp has called himself a “poor man’s Bruce Springsteen” according to US Weekly.
Mellencamp is finishing up his United States tour, and then will play a leg of the Outlaw Music Festival, headlined by Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. Bruce will be touring non-stop this year, as his tour restarts on March 19.
Springsteen will also be headlining the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park in September. It will be the first time he has headlined a music festival since the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2014, in which he headlined with Christina Aguilera, Phish, Eric Clapton, and many more. Springsteen is headlining Sea.Hear.Now along with Noah Kahan, and other acts include Trey Anastasio Band, The Black Crowes, and 311.
